Golfology for Cardiology 2018: Teeing Off for 10 Years
Changing Lives....One Heart Patient at a Time
Golfology fore Cardiology has already raised over $400,000 in support of the people and programs at the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at University of Kansas Health System's Center for Advanced Heart Care. Thanks to Golfology, the Center has:
Did you know 80 million Americans suffer from heart disease? That's one in every three adults...many of whom have no idea they have a problem.
Golfology co-founders, Larry Louk and JoLinda Vega gained a personal understanding of that reality when Larry was surprised by a heart attack. His experiences during and after cardiac rehabilitation drove home the importance of both reducing the level of heart disease in this country, and assuring that as many people as possible have access to high quality rehabilitation programs. The Golfology fore Cardiology tournament was born of their commitment to making a difference, and changing lives, one heart patient at a time.
- Launched an innovative new program called Heart SMAART (Self-Managemetn and Risk Reduction Training), which aims to help patients continue to engage in heart-healthy behaviors after completion of their cardiac rehabilitation program. This includes a pilot program using mobile/device technology to improve long-term success of patients post-rehab.
- Established a new cardiac rehab location at the Mid-America Cardiology offices in Overland Park.
- Added patients with heart failure to the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program with the goal of improving their survival and quality of life.
